Mid-summer update

Psyclo ride

Some great summer days

Coe night

... and nights were enjoyed.

Ria mtb

Some challenges were tackled…

Jurgen trip

and these guys are embarking on an epic trip.

Summer is halfway done, but I’m hoping the best is still to come.

May Gray / June Gloom

The title of this post is a bit misleading. Ok, we had an unseasonable amount of clouds and a variety of unexpected precipitation, but that couldn’t really spoil the fun this spring. Time to resuscitate the anemic patient that this blog has become…

A Persian palace in wine country. After our trip, I decided ‘Sideways’ needed another viewing.

The Tour of California rolled by again, at times including guardian angels.

Coe has been glorious as always.

April snapshots

It’s May, spring is going full speed and all, and I haven’t posted anything in a while. Well, it was busy. A few photos…

Work took me to the other coast. No work without play, so a visit to the aptly named Cocoa Beach was in place.

Cocoa Beach

It is just south of Cape Canaveral, and the Kennedy Space Center, where soon the Endeavour will take on its last, well, endeavour, into space. Lotsa rockets in the Space Center…

Titan rocket

A visit to the Center is highly recommended and will please your inner wannabe-astronaut.

Brussel-Noord

Partial eclipse

To celebrate the new year, my impending birthday and the truly magical point Roger Federer scored in Qatar, a partial solar eclipse was arranged (there probably wasn’t enough money for a full one).

I was at the Brussels airport at the time and able to generate some photographic evidence… not the greatest shot but I will say that it was a pretty cool sight.

Road trip (3)

After we left the Valley, the Sierra’s were embracing us again.

Mt. Tom

The mountain dominating this photograph has Tom’s name written all over it – when are you finally going to climb it?

Our travels took us further north; to a Dutch bakery (not unlike the ones I know back home in Flanders) and later to one of the stranger – and at the same time highly luring – lakes around.

Mono Lake

Then we traversed the mountains and headed towards that other, bigger lake. We made our way through an ocean of dense fog

Fog in Carson Valley

and at last made it to the snowy summit…

Summit of Dagget Pass

... and a few hours later, it was time to head home again.

Road trip (2)

On to Death Valley! First, a glance back to what is left behind…

Sierra Nevada to Death Valley

... then a visit to Ubehebe; or, the leftovers of a phreatic aka hydrovolcanic eruption.

The Valley is a gigantic and magnificent home to many great sights, sorts and species. For instance: a castle,

Scotty's Castle

gorgeous sunsets and sunrises,

Death Valley sunrise

a foot race,

Death Valley Trail Marathon

and an abundance of pretty rocks and sand – the paint for great natural works of art.

Road trip

It was time to do another road trip. First stop: Owens Valley and the eastern Sierra Nevada. In winter, this is a truly magical place. Exhibit A:

Eastern Sierra Nevada

Just like in the (many) movies. Not a bad place to hang out, take in the grandeur and shoot some photos…

Sierra Nevada and Alabama Hills

...or do some bouldering and have other fun with the colorful assortment of rocks out here

Bouldering Alabama Hills

...and enjoy the timeless beauty.

Herkansing

Big island, big sky

Big Island sky

A whirlwind trip to the big island left me with a few things to sort through – hopefully I’ll get to this. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to capture the best stuff with any lens… (need to get an underwater case or disposable next time)

Praying Mantis

Praying Mantis

Een fijn beestje dat ik onlangs rond het huis aantrof… een prima natuurlijk insecticide, overigens.

Gezien tijdens onze excursie afgelopen zaterdag, en met dank aan Konijn voor het concept.

House on the hill

Zou het aangenaam wonen zijn, daar? Veel last van burengerucht zal men er alvast niet hebben…

sierra pine

Fijne schaduwen uit de Sierra. Morgen weer een andere dag, maar wat voor een – te veel adrenaline om de slaap te kunnen vatten, vandaar wat gepruts met mijn fotobestand.
