Californication

Een nieuwe lente, een nieuwe… bosbrand.

Fire season is starting early again, after a couple of real dry months in (Northern) California. Unfortunately, another prime Bay Area mountain bike destination (just the past fall it was Henry Coe) is in peril: Soquel Demonstration Forest and the forest of Niscene Marks, which are both very nearby the area where the Summit Fire (named so as it apparently started near the intersection of Summit Rd and Eureka Canyon Rd) is currently raging. Losing trails is of course nothing compared to people that have their homes at risk, but it just sucks even more then. Keeping fingers crossed… (map from the Merc below)

Bees are in trouble.

Aangezien Alex Higgins al jaren op pensioen is en Jimmy White in de schemerzone van zijn carriere beland is, is het al een tijdje aan Ronny O’Sullivan om de nobele traditie van woest, onversaagd en lichtelijk bezopen snooker-genie voort te zetten. En hij heeft dat laatste aspect zonet met verve geillustreerd door in het legendarische Crucible zijn derde wereldtitel binnen te rijven… tja, snooker is vreemd genoeg een van de weinige ’spectator’ sports waar ik nog excited van kan worden (goed, koersen ook).
