Bring on the Death Ride
The Tour of the California Alps is a gruesome, 129 mile long road bike course and event featuring over 15000 feet of climbing in California’s Sierra Nevada range. Nobody knows it under that name though – instead everyone refers to it as the Death Ride, a mythical challenge for anyone here that rides a bike and wants to see how far and high she or he can get.
We overcame our first Death Ride obstacle a couple of days ago, when we made it through the participant lottery, which is in place to limit the field; ‘we’, because I signed up as a group. The group also features ao Ayatola Hombre, who will demonstrate how his rigorous Tacx workout regime will have transformed him into a Lance Armstrong-grade climbing machine.
