Bill in Belgium

The Dark Usurper of the Rainy Northwest recently visited Belgium, promoting the integration of the Belgian eID card (a chip card that is recently introduced and will gradually replace our regular ID cards) with things such as MSN Messenger, providing easy and reliable on-line identification. Now I don’t mind entering credit card information etc in a computer, in the end it takes a 1 minute call to block a card if necessary. But eID + Microsoft security sounds to me like ‘identity theft’. Or, signing a disclaimer stating ‘please patch your Windows Operating System every 5 minutes and buy every single update we get in our head to release or you will be screwed so badly your kids will be ashamed to know you.’ Check out Slashdot for ten thousand more jokes like this.
